A pro-Donald Trump rally clashed with anti-Trump protesters in New York this weekend amid rumors that President Donald Trump would be returning to New York.
Trump was a no-show, but that didn’t stop the March 4 Trump rally that gathered at noon on Saturday outside Trump Tower. A crowd of around a hundred Trump supporters showed up with signs that read “I’m not a Democrat anymore” and “Pro Trump! Lefties drown in your own vomit.”
Most cited concerns about the economy, illegal immigrants, patriotism, and Muslims as the reason they attended.
On the other side of the street, a counter-protest occurred, organized by New York–based resistance group Rise and Resist and LGBTQ anti-gun lobby group, Gays Against Guns. The group of around 50 protesters carried signs aimed at Trump that read “You are not welcome in NY”.
Police kept the two groups separate, though some minor altercations broke out.
Later, when the pro-Trump rally ended, a protest for #March4StandingRock passed by Trump Tower, comprised of a couple of thousand protesters.
“Six days before the national Rise with Standing Rock mobilization in Washington DC, [we] march on Trump Tower to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline and its threat to the Standing Rock Sioux, their sacred lands and clean water,” organizers said.
